Cadbury Athletic u14s v Kingshurst
22/4/12 Away
The last game of the season today for Cadbury and all to play for. With the Premiership runners-up title still up for grabs and Cadbury only needing one point to secure it.
Of course, Kingshurst were up for a good game as ever. They kicked off and didn’t seem to lose possession for the first few minutes, with some great passing, although Cadbury defended well and Kingshurst didn’t create any real chances for themselves.
Even up to the 15th minute, there hadn’t been much in the way of opportunities from either side and the first on-target shot on goal came from Dan H, who took the opportunity on a Cadbury break, but the ball was deflected wide.
In the 23rd minute, a mistake from Cadbury in the middle of the field, gave Kingshurst an opportunity which they took and took possession and crossed the ball into the box. They scrambled the ball into the net. Was it off-side? The linesman didn’t think so and more importantly, the referee signalled the goal. 1-0
Kingshurst continued with good play and passing and looked very much in control of the game. In the 27th minute, they had another break and the ball came into the Cadbury goal mouth but was headed over the bar by their forward.
In the 30th minute, Kingshurst were on the break again, giving them an opportunity to shoot and bringing a good save from Jack.
Just after this, a Cadbury free kick was returned back over the Cadbury defence and the Kingshurst forward raced through. He was one on one with Jack, who stood his ground and dived to take the ball to safety.
Cadbury had a rare attack in the 33rd minute and got a free kick after a foul. Reece took it and launched the ball over to Harry, who chipped it onto Aiden, who headed for goal and brought a nice save from the Kingshurst keeper.
The scoreline remained 1-0 at half time.
Kingshurst came back out strongly and were immediately on the attack, bringing a good save from Jack in the first minute. Kingshurst were winning every ball.
In the 10th minute, Cadbury were on the attack and Josh passed to Ashley who turned and shot, but the keeper just got his fingertips to it to keep it out of the net.
Kingshurst were still out-passing Cadbury and in the 12th minute should have made it 2-0, but their resulting shot in front of goal went over the bar.
Cadbury continued to battle and in the 23rd minute were on the attack. Dan H passed by his defenders and went into the box but was brought down. The ref pointed to the spot and Josh stepped forward and put it away. 1-1
Kingshurst continued to dominate the game and pressurise Cadbury. In the 26th minute an attack from them almost sealed it, but the shot hit the post and the ball was cleared. They carried on looking dangerous and Cadbury battled hard to keep things level until the end.
Full time score 1-1
A very tough game today with a Kingshurst side that dominated throughout, but didn’t convert that domination into converted opportunities, which was lucky for Cadbury, who really didn’t get into the game effectively. Kingshurst seemed to have the passion and commitment that Cadbury didn’t, but were not rewarded with goals.
Having said that, Cadbury continued to battle hard throughout and defend the continuous attacking from Kingshurst and all-importantly achieved the one point that they needed to seal the runners up title, so well done boys!
Man of the match today was Aiden, who battled hard through the game to keep the defence strong and almost brought a goal from one of the few real chances we had today. Well done Aiden!
Well, another season is over and we've achieved runners up in the Premier League! That's quite an achievement boys, as don't forget, none of the teams in this league are a push-over...it's the Prem, it's supposed to be tough! Well done to you all for your hard work and commitment through the season and we just need to go one better next season!
