Report

Caldecote we aware that Conquest were a decent team as they had vanquished the usually all conquering Sandy Sunday in the cup also they had battled hard at Harvey close earlier in the season. With just a point needed for the first division championship it was a nervy affair against a physical opposition, the YB's soon found out how physical the opposition were as the home teams centre back offered to thump his own manager! Caldecote could have taken a lead as early as the 2nd minute as Gurneys long ball was collected by Gabbitas who went through but blazed over. Conquest went straight up the other end and also wasted a good chance. Jack Gab then had a shot blocked only for Kai to fire the rebound over when it seemed easier to score. Kai made up for his miss on 17 minutes as his hard work tracking back earned him the ball on the halfway line he then surged forward into the box and squared to Gabbitas who made no mistake slotting home. Only 3 minutes late Kemp took a lovely freekick that just clipped the wall and shaved the bar, the same player took the resulting corner and Gower volleyed in at the front post to double the lead. The YB's were now rampant and playing some great football, Mickey Robs' through ball was instantly controlled by Gower who out muscled the center half to run on and net again. Moment's later and more liquid football, Kemps ball was flicked on by Paul Gower and Gabbitas raced through to score. The final goal of the half was tucked in by Gabbitas to complete another hattrick, again running through the middle, Conquest still had not learned the lesson!

Houghton started the second half well firing a volley wide and then calling Buckland into a good double save. The YB's regained control and normal service was resumed with another Gabbitas goal after a great team move for 6-0. Gower had almost turned away in disgust as his attempted lob was shinned but the ball managed to find its way over the 'keepers leg as he tried a bizarre slide tackle rather than conventional methods of saving the ball, still a hattrick is a hattrick after all! The scoring was completed by a superb move and finish by Kai Griffiths Shilton. Substitute Michael "Bolton" Gradwell entertained everyone late on as he had a hissy fit when his golden chance to score was snuffed out by a good last ditch tackle. All that remained was for Kevin Smyth to be presented with a well deserved "Manager of the Month" award. He later ignored Jack Gabbitas' hattrick, Paul Gowers 3 assists and hattrick by pronouncing Mickey Robinson as MOM!

Everyone went back to the club as 1st team sponsor Peter of the Jade Garden kindly put some celebration money behind the clubs bar. Thanks also due to all the players management and supporters for an excellent season.
