Capel Plough football club was formed in 1969 entering the Gippeswyk league, progressing from division 3 to division 1 . When the league folded the club joined the Licenced Trades League, winning the Guinness Shield in 1977-78 season and becoming champions of the Premier League in 1982-83. The following season, the team amalgamated with Magpies. The move was then made to Sunday Morning League and in their first year the team were Runners- Up in the Suffolk Cup. In the seasons 1986-87 and 1994-95 they were Division One Champions and were Runners Up in the league in 1987-88 and 1988-89. In 1996, Capel achieved the double of S.M.L. League cup and Reserves Cup Winners. In 1997, we entered the ‘A’ Team into the S.M.L. Division 11.
Also in 1977, s Saturday side was formed and entered the Suffolk and Ipswich League Division VII. In 1986 it was decided to also run a reserve side which joined the SIL division VIII. The first team was promoted and relegated on several occasions, eventually winning the Samford cup in 1995, 1996, 1997 and 1998. In 1998 the club reached the Senior League for the first time in their short history after winning Division One. They remain in the Senior Division to this day with a 3rd and two 2nd place finishes in the last 3 years and also runners up in the Suffolk Senior Cup in 2006
