Ajax travelled to run away leaders Whitnash hoping to avenge the heavy defeat suffered at home early in the season. A major setback with Charly sidelined through illness. Another poor pitch to play on with grass so long we lost Joe twice just warming up!
With Jonny deputising in goal Ajax won the toss and kicked down a sizeable slope. From the outset the boys looked on good form. Joe, Dan and Zach were all winning their tackles in midfield. Adam and Ale were comfortable at the back and passing the ball out of defence. Ajax threatened on a couple of occasions and were having most of the possesion. Whitnash got forward themselves but Ajax were solid especially from corners that had seen us struggle in the home fixture. The visitors took a deserved lead on 10 minutes when a great run, turn and shot from Rory ended with the ball hitting the roof of the net. The boys continued to push and before the break extended their lead when a terrific run out of defence and through ball from Adam sent Rory through on goal and we all knew he would finish well. Jackson came on to add to our midfield as half-time couldn't come soon enough for the leaders, though we did have Jonny to thank with a good save late on.
HT Whitnash 0, Ajax 2
The boys were praised for their first half performance but also reminded that Whitnash would be looking to get back in the game kicking witht the slope. The home side did come out a changed side after the break and put Ajax under a lot of pressure. The pressure was rewarded with a goal when we failed to clear a loose ball. Livewire Jackson almost restored our 2 goal lead when but good goalkeeping narrowed his angle. With 10 minutes to go Whitnash levelled the game. The closing stages saw Whitnash pile forward looking for a winner, however all the boys defended well and the game finished level.
FT Whitnash 2, Ajax 2.
A great performance against the team who will win this league. You should all be proud of yourselves today especially in the first half where we dominated the game. The attitude was also excellent especially in the closing stages where decisions were going against you. Credit to Whitnash who showed why they are the best team in the league by bouncing back so well in the second half.
MoM. Good to have Rory back to his best but Joe gets this week's award for his non stop tackling - two tackles at the end were superb as was his energy throughout the game. Well done to the little fella!
Keep up this level of performance and we can have a good finish to this first season.
