CTFC Club History |
A Chapel side was formed as early as 1921, playing in a competitive Manchester League .In 1958 Chapel United amalgamated with Chapel Celtic and became Chapel Town Athletic Football Club playing in the Manchester League for a further seven years. A spell in the Fairfield League followed before the Club joined the Hope Valley League some thirty years ago. In the early 1960’s Chapel Town moved from the Memorial Park to our own ground – Rowton Park and now enjoy a superb playing surface maintained by the hardworking grounds men.
The Club operates at an amateur level managed by a voluntary committee. The Club traditionally two men’s teams which currently play in the Hope Valley Football League. The Club was left the ground via a trust by a local resident; therefore the club owns the facilities outright and does not pay any associated rents.
The ground includes the following facilities. A concrete walled enclosed pitch to three sides only with a shelter incorporating home and away dugouts and an area for spectators. A dedicated changing building with two changing rooms, referees changing area, social area, shower room and a garage/workshop. There is also a large under developed car parking facility and significant areas of fallow land around the pitch perimeter.
Two teams of Chapel Town AFC and Buxton Ladies predominantly use the facilities. Chapel Town Juniors also use the facilities when there are no other pitches available in Chapel-en-le-Frith. The Hope Valley League as a venue for their finals also regularly selects the facilities. Veteran’s games are played annually.
