The Chelsea Supporters Club Junior football team was formed to compete in the Junior Football League Under Eleven Division of the Gibraltar Football Association for the 2003/2004 Season. The team comprised of a squad of 12 players from which 7 players had never played competitive football before. We had a mountain to climb, especially since all the teams we were competing against in this league had (bar one team) been playing together for the last four years. Three pre-season friendly matches were played on 27th September, 1st and 4th October 2003 against Glacis Utd (previous season’s Under 11 Runners-Up), St Joseph’s Haymills (previous season Under 9 Champions) and Manchester United Red Devils. We lost the first two matches 9 –1 and 3 – 2 respectively, goals from R. Balestrino and P. Vasquez & E. Marin respectively. The final pre-season warm-up match was won 2 – 0, goals from R. Balestrino & V. Poulsen. Considering the opposition and the circumstances of fielding an inexperienced and brand new team the pre-season results looked promising for the forthcoming season. At the end of the season the team finished in a respectable 6th position, out of ten teams. Three matches were lost by a single goal and three matches were drawn when the team was in front. The following season, (2004-05),the team moved on to the under 13 category. Several new players were signed to strengthen the squad, but the transition from playing on the small pitch, as we had been doing in the under 11, to playing on the full pitch against older opposition proved to much for the team, and despite the fact they all tried their best, the team finished bottom of the league. The 2005-06 season saw the team competing in the under 13 and under 15 category. The under 13 team was composed from the majority of the players who had been with the team the previous season, as well as several players who joined after having successful trials. The new under 15 team was composed from players who were no longer eligible to play in the under 13 category, as well as several new players recruited from club trials. The under 13 team, managed by Xavier Vasquez, were now the older boys in their category and had a better season. The under 15 team, managed by Adrian Ballestero, had a very good first season, in what was arguably one of the strongest under 15 league in years. They finished a respectable fifth in the league. The 2006-07 season, saw the club entering a new team in the under 13 league. This team was managed by Bill White. The Club also fielded two teams in the under 15 league. One was the Chelsea Beacon Press team which was jointly managed by Xavier Vasquez and Adrian Ballestero. This team was made up from players who had one more year left in under 15 football, and those players who had come up from the under 13.The second under 15 team was called Chelsea SC. This team was composed mostly from players who had come to the club after attending trials and doing well. That team was managed by Francis Huart and Jonathan Danino. The Beacon Press team were a stronger team and finished fourth in the league, but the SC team, struggled badly during the season and ended bottom of the league. The 2006-07 season also saw the club enter a team in the senior league of the Gibraltar Football Association. This team was a very young team, and found the going tough. The transition from junior football to senior football is a big one. The team struggled at first, but little by little improved and finished the season playing very well, raising hopes for the next season. The 2007-08 season, has the club competing in the under 13, under 15 and senior league.
