The Legends starting X1 was:
Paul Tadgell, Steve Joslin, Karl Sewell, Justin Renn, Peter Norris, Martin Aylott, Elliot Rowland, Phil Edwards, Perry Hendescot , Gary Reader, Chris Dearman
Ben Ward, Andy Skipp, Paul Hunt, Matt Fletcher and Jamie Branch were on the rota for rolling substitutions,
Unfortunately, the squad is not as strong as it could have been due to the abscence of a number of our old boys.
Cliff King was going to play but got injured during the week. All time leading goalscorer Jason Bear was away working in the USA. Ian Skipp could not make the trip down from oop north. Paul Reader couldn't make it either, neither could Graham Linger or Scott or Lee Fisher. Paul Edwards dropped out on the morning of the match due to his uncle falling ill.
The Churchbury side were missing Ricky Visocchi (working again) and Scott Thomas. Scott's brother Ricky replaced him in the squad which was managed by Colin Royall for the day.
As I refereed the 1st half the notes are limited.
GOAL! 1-0 Chuchbury took the lead on about 15 mins when Steve Eaton chased down a long ball and rounded keeper Taul Tadgell to roll the ball home. 1-0 to Churchbury.
GOAL!! 2-0 Churchbury increased their lead on 27 mins when Chris Brett was on hand to force the ball home from close range. The Legends protested that there were player(s) offside but have only themselves to blame for not providing a linesman.
42 mins GOAL! 2-1 The Legends get a toe hold back in the game when Andy Skipp controls a long ball played up to him by Justin Renn and shoots across Stuart Taylor and inside the far post to reduce the arrears.
HT 2-1 A well earned breather for all the players as the game had been played at quite a pace. The roll on-roll off substitutions meant players could take a break when needed and allowed all the players to get a good run out. Tony Webster took the whistle for the 2nd half.
Only one goal after the break credited to Don Raghip whose shot deflected off Karl Sewell and directed the ball further away from Tadgell's dive. Without the deflection I think it would have been saved. 3-1 to Churchbury.
FT 3-1 A fair result overall considering the age difference between the sides but the Legends were able to string a series of passes together and were never over run. Legends Manager Gary Reader wants a rematch asap when he has some of his missing players available but whether that could be accomodated pre season is a matter for the current managerial team to decide. The Legends Man of the Match was Justin Renn. Justin was one of the 2 Legends who managed to play the 90 minutes. Skipper Phil Edwards was the other.
