Churchbury FC 1977 - Todate

The club takes its name from Churchbury Lane in Enfield where a number of enthusiastic young footballers used the school gymnasium for 5 a side games. They decided it would be a good idea to play as an 11 a side team and Churchbury FC was formed in late 1977. Churchbury FC played its first friendly game in January 1978 beating Enfield FC Supporters Club at Bury Street Recreation Ground. The club joined the then Brooke Waltham League for season 1978-79 to play its first competitive matches. Churchbury has spent most of the time in the lower divisions of the league but did start a rise through the divisions in the nineties by winning the Division 6 title in the1994/95 season. Progress was made through the higher divisions mostly by other teams dropping out of the league. Churchbury were promoted to fill vacancies in higher divisions by finishing in the top half of their division. Being promoted by the league without ever receiving any trophies put us in a false position as we did not have the playing personnel to sustain that lofty status. Therefore, that rise to Division 2 has been followed swiftly by a drop down to Division 5, with the club suffering a number of shattering relegations on the way. The club now seems to have found its feet again, and is at last tasting some league success in that division.
Numerous venues have been used by the club for Home matches starting with Enfield Playing Fields before the club played for many seasons at Tottenhall Playing fields in Palmers Green using their sloping pitch to great effect. More recently the club spent a season at Bush Hill Park before returning to Enfield Playing Fields where they currently entertain the local populace.
Back in the eighties and early nineties the club made many successful end of season tours to Holland where they have taken part in triangular tournaments.
