A very good result for City today testing the strength of our squad, our drive and determination... Clarendon still have to win their games now.
The game started really quickly with an attacking 4-3-3 formation deployed by City. The aim: to score early and put the game to bed. We passed the ball really well on the slick Row Heath surface and created some really good chances. The goal came after about 10 minutes from a delightful Andy Thomas 'trademark' drive from the edge of the box that thrashed through a group of bodies and into the net. We continued to press and pass the ball well from the back and through the midfield. Other chances came and went leaving the game 1-0 at the break.
After half time, city came out quickly again and the game started to open up with both teams creating chances. The second goal came from another corner, Thomas involved again - this time with the assist, a guided header into the path of the awesome Garwood who bundled the ball in from 2 yards. An excellent contribution from the returning Yeo was topped by an excellent cross for the third goal (which I headed in) and a slick finish for the 4th goal.
This was after a period of Kings pressure that resulted in a goal and some chances at the other end. They briefly had their tails up before Yeo put the game to bed.
The result was put beyond any doubt after Mr Garwood lashed in another goal of the season candidate after weaving in from the right had side and lashing in a 25 yard pile driver from which the keep stood very little chance.
A good solid performance from
City with only one league game and a 'friendly' with Clarendon.. We have built up some good momentum and intend to finish strongly.
Man of the match goes three ways - Andy Thomas for his three assists goal and dominating performance, Jason Garwood (at the ripe age of 40-something) for his wonder strike and constant threat but Olly Thorp was immense today from full-back to centre forward he worked tirelessly and no-one went passed him. A stunning performance.
We look forward to next weeks showdown.
