Cleeve West Town Club History
13 Jul 2007

In approximately 1965 Backwell thirds (who had to play all their fixtures away as Backwell only had one pitch which the firsts & reserves had first choice of) amicably agreed that they would separate to form their own club. They played on what was Sores Court in Hillside Road i.e. at the ‘West Town’ end of Backwell village, and they used ‘West Town’ as their name. They stayed there for about two seasons, playing in the Bristol Regional League before moving to King George Vth (Cleeve) Playing Fields. After some two seasons the playing fields committee thought the playing fields name should be reflected in the teams name hence from then on the club was named ‘Cleeve West Town’.
