History

Chew Moor Brook Football Club
27 Nov 2008

Formed in the early 1970s as part of the Metal Box Sports Club, providing football, cricket and other sports.

Over the years the club slowly decreased and due to the closure of the Metal Box works the existing club moved to Lock Lane in 2000, providing facilities for cricket team and 11 a-side football teams.

Small sided football was introduced around 2003 and the club witnessed an explosion of numbers in 2006 as more and more younger players were allowed to play organised football on a scale more suited to their size and ability. The club has since grown and the need for a proper committee structure, rules and an ethos about what the club stands for was introduced and is now firmly in place.

CMB FC provides organised football for the youth of Chew Moor and surrounding districts whatever their ability.

We do not turn players away, instead, if we have too many for one team, when numbers allow we will create another team. We try and produce teams of equal ability encompassing skilled and less able players in the same team. Our age groups have different themes and their names are based on that, for example one of our age groups is named after Bolton Wandereres FC, CMB Wanderers and our New Under 7s are CMB United. Over the years we have had a couple of players move on to Academies and then play in top flight football with several others playing in a semi professional capacity. More recently many of our younger players are invited to attend the Academy at Bolton Wandereres, Manchester United and Mancahester City for trials.

Our club emblem is designed around the Brazilian national crest due to our links with Coritiba FC. Their club badge and website can be be viewed via our sponsors links with our current playing kit located on the Photo Gallery page.

As well as 11 a side and small sided football, two seasons ago we introduced 9 v 9 football to our under 11’s teams.

We currently field 10 teams, which means we have in excess of 100 boys, girls and adults playing organised football every week.

We are a Charter Standard Club and have held this status since November 2002. We will soon be conducting after school training with local primary schools that fall within our area. This ensures that children who, for whatever reason do not want to join a club, benefit from at least having the opportunity to have a go.

We have 11 qualified and CRB checked managers, coaches and volunteers. We actively pursue and train young referees and will be encouraging our 14 years+ to join the Young Coaches Association.

We have recently formed a “Partnership” with Bolton Wanderers International Acadamy. This is as a result of our Charter Standard Status and the relationship that has developed between the committee members and the staff at Bolton Wanderers FC. Our President, Mike Bennett is currently a key member of the acadamy and international set up over the summer months teams from all over the world will train at our ground which will be open to local people to watch.

We will be running our annual memorial cup in honour of a local man who loved the local game and was a good friend to the club.

Our teams regularly enter tournaments both at home and abroad and we regularly host clubs from around the country and arrange games with them.

As a result of all our efforts CMB FC both on and off the field, has gained respect for beig a good fotball club and the teams have achieved a number of awards we are a progressive club with qualified coaches delivering structured training sessions to all.

We are committed to developing our home ground at Lock Lane to allow all our teams to be accommodated and play on one site. At the moment we are developing plans which will result in the provision of new drainage, all weather training pitch, a clubhouse and extra car parking facilities.

In 2007 the first CMB Open Age team was started, entering the Lancashire Amateur League Division Two. Following a successful campaign which ended in promotion a Reserve Team has been established for the 2008/2009 season.

The vision is there for a brighter future.
