Like all good things, Club Website started from a very simple idea. We wanted an online home for our local club to communicate with players, parents and even other clubs in the area, whilst having some fun along the way. But we didn't know where to start. 'Ping' went a light bulb and Club Website began.
I think it all started with the question: "Why haven't we got a website?"
Countless meetings with computer nerds and many late nights with internet geeks later - they are our friends now so we can call them that! - it soon became apparent that what we were creating might also benefit thousands of other clubs across the country! After all, our needs were no different to others who wanted a hand running their teams.
So we set ourselves three objectives. Firstly, whatever we created had to be amazing and work for all clubs regardless of size or stature. Secondly, our websites had to be simple to set-up, update and run. Third, and most important of all, it should be free.
Six gruelling months later, the easy-to-use Club Website network was born and we launched it to the world at Grass Roots Football LIVE in 2005.
The response was phenomenal.
Due to demand, a new league website service quickly followed and, thanks to waves of great support and brilliant feedback from our members, we continued to build into the largest provider of club and league websites in the UK. [Pause for a quick pat on the back, everyone.]
Now we see Club Website as a football revolution. What started as a couple of lads wanting a home for their club online is now, 6 years on, a monster football community. 39,000 teams (1 in every 4 UK teams), 300 leagues and 1.1 million footballers use our services on a monthly basis - and we're still growing!
And because you’ve made Club Website such a massive force in football the professionals are now joining the revolution too. Umbro, Lucozade Sport, Virgin Media, Football Foundation, Scottish Youth Football Association, Welsh Football Trust, the list goes on....
Our founding philosophy remains the same. We are still passionate about the game of football, we are not a governing body - and therefore will never have ulterior motives - and will always want to inspire those fans, players, managers, coaches and secretaries who simply love the beautiful game of football.
It’s been an incredible journey so far and we're only at the start.
