Report

Copsewood Coventry Ladies ended what has been a fantastic season for the club with a frustrating 3-2 defeat against bottom half side Loughborough Students. Copsewood were without skipper Amanda Whalley and Melissa Zaffino for the trip to the university which turned out to be a bad day all round. Having got to the University an hour before kick off, it then took Copsewood 65 minutes to locate the pitch and were only allowed to warm up for 5 minutes before the game started. The situation completly ruined the game for the away side as after only 2 minutes influential midfielder Stacey Christie pulled up with cramp and after 25 minutes leading scorer Nicola Foksett had to come off for a sprain to her ankle which was then made even worse when second top scorer Abiyola Riley was forced to come off due to illness. In terms of the football, Loughborough (who had been warming up for a good 40 minutes before kick off) started the brighter of the two teams but it was Copsewood who took a 2 goal lead when Nicola Foskett cemented her posistion as the leagues leading scorer by netting her 28th and 29th goals of the season just before she was taken off. After a major adjustment to the formation Copsewood looked to stay organised and catch Loughborough on the counter attack but unfortuntly they just came up short as the home team reversed the scoreline by scoring a soft goal in the 90th minute to win the game. Overall it was a disappointing way to end the season for Copsewood who would have secured 3rd in the league if it wernt for their team being depleted on the day but a 4th place finished shows excellent progress for a team who looked destined to fold in the last 2 years and everyone associated with the club can look forward to what they believe will be an even better season next year.
