IF YOU ARE 16 YEARS OR OVER AND HAVE A PASSION FOR FOOTBALL COME TO CORNARD LADIES AND ENJOY TRAINING FROM EXPERIENCED COACHING STAFF, THE BENEFITS OF A WELL ESTABLISHED CHARTER STANDARD CLUB AND ALL CORNARD UTDS FACILITIES.
Following on from previous seasons where the club has played in the Essex County Woemns Football League, Cornard Ladies has decided to move to the Suffolk Women & Girls County League for season 2009/2010. The league has grown sufficiently for the move to be viable and give the Ladies a number of games this season. We are looking forward to the challenge and playing against new teams.
It was a great turn out for the end of season do at Cornard Utd FC's clubhouse, which saw the ladies, youth and mens team receiving their medals and trophys in recognition of their efforts this season.
As usual each player on the ladies team received a small trophy as a thanks for their commitment this year. We all know how difficult it can be to balance home life, working and playing football, but there was a not a game where less than 11 players were fielded.
The main trophys were given in recognition to those players who put that extra effort both on and off the pitch as follows:-
Woman of the Match (based on most player of match nominations) - STACEY TEAGER
Managers Player of the Year - EMMA COUCH
Most Improved Player of the Year - BERNICE CORNEY
Players Player of the Year - CLAIRE JACKSON
Congratulations to everyone this season on the improvements both individually and as a team. We finished higher than last season and our results were considerably better than before, beating teams which we had struggled against previously.
THANK YOU & ALL THE BEST FOR SEASON 2009/2010
From CORNARD LADIES COMMITTEE
Brentwood Town Ladies held their first Pre-Season tournament on Sunday 17th August 2008.
12 Clubs entered, mainly from the Essex and Suffolk area.
In our Initial Group of games, we played Brentwood Town, Watford Town Reserves and Havering,(25 minutes a game) from which we came 3rd, subsequent to which we went onto challenge for the Plate.
In the semi-final, we played Havering once more. The score was 1-1 at full time, Lucy Barber scoring the goal, before Havering equalised. A penalty shoot out followed, which we won 4-2, with Alice Grindrod, Cornards new keeper, making some key saves.
The final was against Shotley Rose Ladies FC winners of the Suffolk County Womens League in season 2007/2008. It was a close fought match with Shotley being the first to score after 10 minutes. Cornard cut it tight with only 4 minutes to go with a neatly placed touch from Lucy Barber levelling the score. As per the semi-final, it went to penalties. After both teams had exhausted their chosen 5 penalty takers, it was level pegging at 4-4 when Vicky Couch took her penalty, calmly slotting it into the corner outside the reach of the keeper. Shotley took theirs and Alice Grindrod stretched high to tip the ball over the bar.
It was a long day, but enjoyable and well worth the experience of playing against teams in both equal and higher leagues.
We are pleased to announce Richie Teager as our new Manager beginning this season 2008/2009.
As he brings a lot of experience to the position, we are confident his appointment will improve the quality of football played and the club will continue to flourish.
