Division 1

Coton Green enjoyed a highly successful first season in Division 1. After a tough fixture list being drawn up, Coton started well with a 3-0 win at home to Thimblemill REC and they then continued this success into the next game where they snatched a last gasp winner to beat Stockingford AA away at The Cabbage.
Coton then went into their first local derby at this level facing Mile Oak Rovers at Price Avenue.
Coton started well in this game and were fortunate enough to take the lead only to be pegged back by Mile Oak. After a topsy-turvy game, Coton done well to come away with a point after the final score finished 3-3. Coton then faced tough games against Newhall United and Stockingford AA and they were able to take away 3 out of 6 possible points from these games with a 2-1 home win against Newhall and a disappointing 1-0 defeat against Stockingford.
After the festive period, Coton still had their hopes set on promotion and were able to score decent victories against Littleton, Fairfield Villa and an emphatic 5-0 victory against Leamington.
Coton travelled to league leaders Knowle FC and after a decent performance, were 1-0 up going into second half injury time but were unfortunate enough to concede in the 93rd minute after some suicide defending left an open gap for the Knowle striker to take his chance.
Coton then came into another promotion clash against local rivals, Mile Oak Rovers. After a thrilling first encounter at Price Avenue, the same entertainment factor was expected at New Mill Lane.
The game started scrappily in typical derby fashion but Coton were able to break away and take the lead through a well worked set-piece.
Coton then doubled their lead in the second half but Mile Oak were tenacious enough to pull one back and make a game of it.
All fears were then settled when Coton added a third late on and slashed Mile Oaks' hopes of promotion.
Coton then faced a home tie against Alveston and were able to walk away from the game with all 3 points after a 2-0 triumph and also topped the table after this win.
As the run-in continued, Coton had several decent victories knowing that if they could continue this streak then they would be guaranteed promotion.
Coton travelled away to Northfield Town for their last game of the campaign and were eager to grab all 3 points and claim promotion.
Coton looked bright from the start and were denied a penalty within the first 5 minutes but were fortunate enough to be awarded one ten minutes later and took the lead with a decent finish from the spot.
Coton played out the half and came out once again looking stronger and were able to capitalise on this as they doubled their lead and their chances of gaining promotion.
Northfield then began a fightback and were able to play some decent football against a relaxed looking Coton team.
Along with Northfields domination came their first goal when their striker was able to turn in a well crafted wing move and this then sparked several break-aways for Northfield.
The inevitable then occured when Northfield grabbed an equaliser with only minutes to go. Coton stayed on the backfoot and were fortunate enough not to conceed the goal that would have slashed their aspirations of promotion.
Coton left with only 1 point knowing that all 3 would have secured them the runners up spot.
This left Coton awaiting the result of the Northfield vs Oldbury match knowing that Oldbury had to take points from Northfield in order for them to gain promotion.
A congregation of the Coton players travelled over to watch their fate unravel and were joyous in their travels as Oldbury beat Northfield 2-0 thus confirming Cotons promotion to the Midland Combination Premier Division.
