History Although still embryonic compared to teams like Notts County (1862) and Kilmarnock (1869) CPAFC is fast creating a history and footballing legacy of its own. The team was conceived in the long hot summer of 2005 and was the brainchild of chairman, founder and all round nice guy Tsar Danny Cassidy (me). The team was built on the ethos of teamwork and our quest was not only to become footballing icons but to engineer a team that would help blossom our friendships. The core of the team had been playing together every Thursday night for just over a year and longing for a more competitive game and more time away from our families we joined the Tuesday night five a side league at Goals in Kirkstall. Starting from the depths of Division 8 we embarked on our mission to become footballing gods. The backbone of the team has stayed the same ever since our opening game (a 5-1 defeat by BMFC) with myself lieutenant Danny Cassidy, James "the David Beckham of Tuesday nights" Caves, Graeme "I'm better than Dennis Law" Kennedy, Simon "The pretty one" Binns, Saleem "the general" Patel, Jim "tackle me and I'll kick you in the shins" Boorman and of course our captain fantastic Kris "no one knows what that D stands for" Long all lining up. The game also featured a cameo appearance by Mahfooz Akhtar deputising for Atif "the Asian Schmeichel" Khan who was off gallivanting in north Asia. The team has stayed pretty much the same ever since, the only notable transfer has been the capture of the white Pele James Wood (or is it Pele that is the black James Wood?) a few players have popped up here and there with a few appearances but the majority of the first team has stayed constant. What's in a name? Most of the team met through work at GE (the 4th largest company in the world!!!) with exception to Simon Binns who worked then for carcraft and also as a part time model (see his portfolio click here http://www.bondmodels.com/models/men/simonbinns.htm he is available for modelling / acting and personal appearances at events, family reunions and bar mitzvahs) Anyway where was I? o yes the name! well CPAFC is actually an acronym for Capital Punishment Amateur Football Club. This developed not because we are all avid supporters of the death penalty but because we worked for GE Capital and we couldn't think of anything better so GE capital punishment amateur football club was formed. The other options floating around the office were GE globe trotters, Mighty Megaw Power Rangers, The Jimi Boorman experience and my own personal favourite the Rajan Kumar all stars. In true democratic style though we had a vote and Capital Punishment was chosen. We are ready to take Tuesday night football by storm and our bid for the prestigious division 8 title is in full swing! bring on the competition! and we'll see you at the Nou Camp!
