Report

Another game - 2 weeks running???!!! This fixture really did spring upon Cranbrook unsurprisingly!

On a boggy pitch Cranbrook came out to battle with Wadhurst to reach the semi-final of the League Cup. The game started with Cranbrook on the back foot with Wadhurst squandering a couple of chances. With Wadhurst pushing forward it wasn't long before they broke the deadlock with a ball that sneaked through and was put into the net. Cranbrook lifted their game a bit after this and had a good spell on the ball. Robinson had lots of space out on the left and won a free kick from about 25 yards out. Standing over the ball and waiting for the indirect kick to take place, Tom decided to give it a go!! Tom struck the ball into the top right hand of the goal and the keeper got a touch to it, meaning the goal stood.

Cranbrook heads were up and soon after the first Cranbrook got a chance to go one ahead when Robinson fed the ball nicely through to AJ whose pace beat all the defenders and he smashed it past the stranded keeper. With half time approaching both teams played some good football on a pitch unfit for good football! Cranbrook’s defending was good but the mud in the 18 yard box caused some problems. With seconds to go to the whistle, the ball stuck in the mud and it was a Wadhurst player who got to the ball first, hitting it at the keeper but got a nasty deflection on the way leaving Larkin wrong footed.

Half time was blown up and Cranbrook had a relaxed team talk whilst Wadhurst’s seem to flair up a bit! Wadhurst lost their keeper due to their arguments and a step in was found.

Both teams headed out and again battled well for the ball. Cranbrook had to make 2 subs early on losing Gower and AJ both being replaced by Dan J and Ben W respectively. With these changes Cranbrook still continued to keep their heads up. It was Wadhurst who won a corner half way through the half and a strong headed put them ahead. Their fourth came from a terrible mix up straight from Cranbrook’s kick off and an even bigger mix up at the back and Wadhurst put themselves into the Semi Final with their forth into an empty net.

Fitness proved to be a winner for Wadhurst and they scored their fifth near the end. Cranbrook should not be disappointed with the result as it did not reflect their performance and next week brings another big home game. Well done to Robbo who picked up man of the match.

  • No scheduled fixtures.
