Report

Well done lads a really good team performance, BUT yet again sadly not the result I thought we deserved. Today was about getting prepared and building ready for next season.  Today we played some lovely football for long periods in a well-balanced match. We dominated position for long periods and we controlled the game for long periods, BUT unfortunately we have to turn possession into goals!!!

On the other end of the scale WE MUST concentrate for 80 mins. At the moment defensively we are looking good, but then we get punished when we have a lapse in our concentration.

In the first half we controlled the game and were very patient in our build-up play and with a little more fortune we could have had 3 or 4 goals if it was not for a couple of goal line clearances and a couple of great saves and trying to walk the ball into the net as opposed to letting rip when the opportunity came!

We looked a little shaky in defence at the start so we changed the formation to cope with the one dimensional approach from our hosts, which slowly worked. Unfortunately, this came after a dubious penalty decision was awarded after a rather theatrical dive when challenged, then a double save with brave goalkeeping to keep the half-time unbelievably 1-0 to the hosts.

The 2nd half started as we finished the first with lots of possession and some beautiful passing movement from the team. It was a pleasure to watch at times. Both wing men were running riot and looked dangerous every time we got the ball. Eventually a beautiful move down the left a couple of one two’s and a good strong low finish brought us deservedly level. This brought the hosts into life and they started to create one or two opening that were handled very efficiently by the defence. As we pushed for a winner we defended well, but the lapses were becoming more apparent and on a couple of occasions the hosts could have snatched the lead. Eventually one minor lapse to0 many as we pushed men forward we did not have the strength and awareness to get back watch the man we were supposed to be marked. This left the defence with no cover and the hosts went back in front. Despite a good last 10 mins

A good team performance, patience, more possession than we’ve had all year. The future is bright – let’s work on that winning mentality and for you all to have a win factor individually.
