Cumnocks poor recent run continued with a dismal 1st half display. They failed to play any football, and their inability to hold possession for any length of time saw Southside gain the upper hand for the bulk of the 1st half. The visitors lead 1-0 at half time but their pressure could have seen the game over.
Cumnock seemed to come to their senses at the break and came out fighting. The game was turned on its head with almost constant Cumnock presure for a spell. They saw several golden chances go abegging with efforts cleared off the line, shots off the bar and post and a couple of saves from the Southside goalie. A counter attack on 63 minutes saw Southside double their lead and after having survived Cumnocks pressure they had now almost wrapped up the tie.Cumnock werent finished yet though and when Alex Hampson reduced the deficit, it was game on. Cumnock continued to press and had a penalty turned down as a defender blocked a shot with his hand. Another fast Southside break on 74 minutes saw Cumnocks Chris Shaw make a great tackle 25 yards from goal to win the ball and thwart the attack. Not in the refs eyes though as he awarded a direct free kick. This time Southside well and truly killed the game with a strike off the underside of the bar and in for the 3rd.
