Nice to see our usual post-season friendly buddies bwjfc. A team that do all the right things. Dhjfc were down to bare bones, chadwick out, gore and cox returning from injury. Dhjfc tried a new system on the night and it certainly appeared to work. Bwjfc overloaded the middle with 5 and dhjfc stuck with 3. It was therefore no surprise that bwjfc controlled the first 20 as dhjfc got to grips with a new shape. Failure by gore and hope in clearing their lines saw bwjfc take a cheeky 0-1 lead. Following that dhjfc settled down as bwjfc started to slow down a bit. Lealand, parker and the superb hargreaves began to get a foothold in the middle. Moving the ball quicker was the message and they did. It was a hot and sticky evening so a couple of lads looked tired. Collum and parker took a rest and cox and wilson came on changing the team. Beadle now in the middle and cox up front to jump start things and it did. The hardworking blackshaw got his rewards when he chased a dead ball down, forced the keeper into an error and then put in a cheeky chip and 1-1 and HT. Keep the shape and react alot quicker was the message. Dhjfc then started to control the next 20mins, the tireless duo marsh and blackshaw put it on a plate for cox and it was 2-1 to dhjfc. Bwjfc are a very fit and quick side and that was the diffrence, as time wore on dhjfc made individual mistakes. Tom wilson failed to track his man =2-2. Not clearing lines = 2-3 and sammy gore not getting tight = 2-4. Fitness we can live with and work on. That said marsh and beadle both missed one on ones so its a very fine line boys. Tonight was about trying a new system and getting lads back playing. Gore will be forgiven for his error due to his lack of footy but others, more work his required. Mention to blackshaw's mazy run when he glided past 4 players and his goal. He never gave up and thats what its all about. The performance was what we wanted. Football won the day and thats great to see. Mom: tough one, marsh, lealand and blackshaw putting in some serious shifts. But for me young george hargreaves put in a skippers performance. He was everywhere, kept his council well and let his feet do the talking. Well done boys.
