Report

A clash of two of the top teams was always going to be a tasty affair and that is how it panned out.
We started the game well much the better side for the first twenty minutes or so, Bury defended really well and we just couldnt make the final ball count. Tom W went close with a great shot from 20 yards that smashed down off the bar and although it looked over the line it wasnt given. Bury had not really created a chance but we just couldnt make the pressure count. They then started to come into the game a bit more in the last ten of the first half and scored a good goal after sloppy defending gave the ball away the ball was crossed in low and turned into the net from close range which was their first real chance of the game. A lesson for us in finishing. HT 0-1
At HT we said that we needed to release the ball quicker in midfield and try to pick the correct pass to the forwards but in truth the early stages of the second half we were on the back foot and Bury pressed the ball much better than us and we struggled to keep possession. Logan did have a weak effort straight at the keeper but the game was mainly being played in midfield until a mistake on our left allowed a shot from an acute angle that somehow squeezed through Oli on his near post and we were two down 0-2. A little harsh on balance but we hadnt done enough to get back in it. To be fair we worked hard trying to get it back Joe B almost got clear but a last ditch tackle stopped him and then he did get played in and his shot was saved but Logan was on hand to smash in the rebound and it was 1-2. We went to two at the back to try to get it back and should have done so when Logan hit a lovely first time ball that split the defence and sent Joe B sprinting clear one on one with the keeper, with Joe's record we expected the equalizer but the keeper raced out and somehow blocked it with his legs and the last chance of the game had gone. So it finished 1-2 and it was a really good high quality game from both teams. The lads worked hard and gave their all and on reflection deserved something from the game but it wasnt to be. Bury are a good side and made it a good game all round. We need to concentrate on moving the ball quicker but it will come.
Man of the Match: Difficult one today nobody was outstanding and they have all played better but I think Leon just deserved it, his effort was there today and he showed good ability on the ball.
