The RA continued their pre-season programme with an away fixture at Teesside League outfit Richmond Mavericks.
The RA were two goals up inside the first 15 minutes with goals from Steve Allison (8mins) and Jordan Hanratty (12mins) and they looked to be the better side. However they let the Mavericks back into it as Adam Emson bagged a brace to level the scores on 22 and 27 minutes.
New boy Aaron Ramsbottom was brought down in the area on 37 minutes to give the RA the opportunity to re-take the lead. Steve Allison's spot kick was however saved low to the keeper's right. Two minutes later Aaron Ramsbottom had the ball in the net but he was ruled offside.
The Athletic did get their noses back in front just before the break as Ramsbottom finally got his reward on 44 mins.
The RA cemented their authority in the second half as Dale Elgie headed a fourth from Ramsbottom's cross on 58 mins and Steve Allison scored his second on 74 mins.
The Mavericks completed the scoring when Martin Clark netted with 13 minutes to go.
