Norton & Stockton Ancients 4 v Darlington RA 2
25 Jul 2012

The RA's pre-season programme continued tonight with defeat at Norton and Stockton's Station Road ground.

The Railwaymen conceded two sloppy goals late in the first half and were always chasing the game thereafter, although they played some decent stuff at times. The first 35 minutes were evenly contested, until Norton took the lead through Martin Woodhouse. They doubled their advantage with virtually the last action of the first half when Tony Able netted. Both goals were the consequence of weak defensive play.

The RA pulled a goal back on 60 minutes when Freddie Huscroft's header was diverted into his own goal by Jack Procter.

Just two minutes later Charlie Raby scored the goal of the game with an unstoppable 20 yarder inside Alex Kell's left hand post to make it 3-1. On 65minutes Tom Wilkie was left unmarked in the penalty area to score a fourth for the Ancients.

Graham Whitehead completed the scoring from the penalty spot on 72 minutes after James Evison was brought down in the area.

The RA play again on Friday evening (KO 7.30pm) at Brinkburn Road against Ballingry Rovers, a touring team from Scotland.
