Daventry United are probably one of the youngest clubs in the Eagle Bitter United Counties Football League having been formed in 1968.
We started life in the Central Northants Combination were we enjoyed success with both first and second teams, in those early days we had to hire council pitches. Then in 1972 we moved to our present home here at the Royal Oak.
In 1977 we joined the United Counties League and with there only being three divisions back then we gained promotion to division one in n 1979.
After winning division one twice and then bringing the ground up to the required standard we eventually gained promotion to the premier division in 1996.
In the last few years we have achieved a lot more than we could have dreamed of.
We had our best run in the FA Cup in the 98/99 season when under the leadership of Richard Green and Kevin Flear we eventually went out to high flying conference side Sutton United in a replay after holding them to a draw at the Royal Oak.
In the 99/00 season we became Premier Division champions and Benevolent Cup winners under Darren Wood, in 00/01 we lost most of our first team squad and Shane Geary built a squad from scratch to eventually finish in fourth place.
01/02 season saw us win the premier division again but this time by a record 19 point margin, we also added the Daventry Charity Cup.
Off the pitch we collected awards too as the club won the Fair Play and Hospitality awards.
Awards have continued to roll in off the pitch with the club being awarded Hospitality awards every year since, on the pitch has not been as good with 11th, 9th, and 6th and last season a lowly 19th.
In between Darran Foster led his reserve side to the Reserve Division Two title after a 23 year wait for the club in the 04/05 season.
2006/07 After a tough first season for Darran Foster we finally failed to climb out of the relegation spots when Stotfold managed to beat Cogenhoe Our only hope was for Stotfold to lose all their remaining games and us to win ours, they didn’t and we didn’t so it was off to Division One.
2007/08 Saw the club finally finish in fifth position. This was a disappointing finish to what promised to be for so long an instant return to the premier division, the ground was ready the club was ready unfortunately it wasn’t to be as United failed to gather the necessary points to gain promotion.
2008/09 Will see the beginning of a new era as long time secretary Mick Fryatt has retired to the quiet parts of Devon, on the managerial front Tommy Young has joined as No 2 to Darran Foster and Roy Russell has joined as first team coach.
2008/09 was a success as Darran Foster led his squad back into the premier Division, finishing second behind run away leaders Peterborough Northern Star the ground was passed and Daventry United were back in the top flight of UCL football.
2009/10 saw United re enter the premier division and were many pundits choice to go straight back down, lying sixth in the table at Christmas they had proved there doubters wrong and although they faltered towards the end of the season this was another good season for Darran Foster and his squad.
2010 saw us re homed as we moved just down the road to ground share with our closest neighbours Daventry Town. With the two sides now playing in different leagues this will make communications park the epicentre of football in Daventry.
2011-12 saw Darren Foster appoint a new Asst. Manager/coach/player in Neil Champelovier who has also brought a number of new players with him to improve the squad.
