Driffield Wanderers began playing in the Driffield League in 1984 having played since the early 70s under the banner of the local Turkey factory side Twydales 2nds .The team still consisted of mostly work mates from the factory but a new era was about to begin. Over the next 3yrs Wanderers held their own in Division 3 as new players came and went Wanderers were taking on a new look and by the begin of the 1987-88 season, there where only two players from the original team still with the club.
Steve Douthwaite took over the running of the club in 1987, being Secretary, Manager and Treasurer all in one, With a lot of new signings Wanderers finished 4th and reach the final of the Blind Cup beaten by Driffield Twn Vikings and alinesman by the name of John Currie, Steve Parker and Stu Allen are the only original players left.
With summer signings Laz Lowery and Ron Aboe

1996-97 a decision to drop in to the 4th division after the previous season poor showing would hopefully give the Wanderers a chance to rebuild but Wanderers were never going to attract the better players from around the league and would have to make do with the kind of team spirit that most clubs would be please with
1997-98 Wanderers first season back in the 4 division with new signings and some old face back at the club Wanderers had a better season on the field but a terrible one off it Wanderers securing promotion back to the 3 division the same day as their long serving manager Steve Douthwaite sadly lost his battle against a heart condition and past away at the age of only 38
