Sheffield United Girls' Centre of Excellence originated in 1999 and is now one of the most established Football Centre’s of Excellence in the Country. The Centre accommodates 80 players within the playing programme which challenges the skills and development of the players against other Centre’s within the Yorkshire and surrounding areas. The games are observed by England scouts with many of the girls progressing through to England training camps. Furthermore, they also offer a Development Centre where over 80 girls are taking part in regular coaching/training sessions, giving opportunities for girls to trial for the playing programme on a regular basis.
The centre draws on the skills and experience of a variety of people, the coaching, medical, welfare and administrative staff. It is not only committed to the development of the players, but to the development of its staff, to ensure that girls are given the best opportunity, in the right environment to have fun, learn and develop and achieve the best that you can be.
A player plays club football within the Sheffield & Hallamshire Girls County League. The Manager may then recommend the player for a trial with the Development squad which then progresses to a Playing squad at the Centre of Excellence.
The next progression is to England U15 - U17's at junior level and it is only the elite players in the country that reach this level.
There is further progression at adult level into Development adult clubs that ultimately lead to Elite adult clubs and the full England squad.
Our team has a really outstanding record at having players at the Centres of Excellence.
Twenty nine players have so far played for our team and the following seven players (24%) have all had trials or have played at a Centre of Excellence:
Lauryn Allen-Warwick
Ayantu Biana
