Back on Home ground this week, and it’s the last game of the season against Carterton. This time an early start for all, with a 9.30 kick off.
Captain today, Eleanor Thompson. In goal this week ‘Foxy’.
After a quick start, the ‘Ducks’ were straight on the attack, an early shot at goal by Eleanor Thompson at close range went over the bar. Sustained pressure gave the ever-agile Katie Mullis a swift chance to slot one in, this she did with style, to put Ducklington ahead.
Carterton not fazed at all by this early attack pushed the ball back into Ducklingtons half. Catching the ‘Ducks’ defence off guard, Carterton’s No 8 moved in for a quick goal levelling the score. (One to watch next season girls)
Carterton continued this attack, with a powerful shot from No 14, which thankfully hit the bar.
With both sides keen to finish the season in style, the game progressed at an ever faster pace. A blink of an eye saw the action back now at the Carterton goal with 2 attempts at goal by both Millie Eaton and Katie Mullis.
A quick change of forwards saw Jade Keenan-Naf on for Eleanor Thompson. Within minutes, she had paired up with Katie Mullis to produce a fine goal, which edged the home side forward again.
The second half now, and a change of goalie. Megan Want in for ‘Foxy’
Great this week to see Chanel Ebanja out from the goal and making some fabulous runs on the wing. One notable run almost ending in a goal!
Further play saw an early second half attack by the ‘Ducks’ with more near misses by Katie Mullis.
Mid way through the half saw Carterton find there feet once more. The Carterton side seemed to have improved well this season, as No 8 was back again for another shot at goal. Would you believe it though, another shot to hit the bar. Gasps of disbelief could be heard from the Carterton supporters.
Back in midfield, and the Millie Eaton, Megan Ostle and Gaby Hill trio worked well to see off a number of Carterton attacks. But with Millie Eaton well on form today it was not long before continued Ducklington possession allowed Katie Mullis her chance to ‘Wack’ one home to give the home side a well deserved 3-1 win.
Well done girls, a fabulous end to the season. Let’s keep up the training through the summer months. We’ll come back stronger and give Kidlington a run for their money next season.
Player of the Match: Megan Ostle.
Kevin Thompson.
