Tigers' tails up but City's spirits far from down
by Ken Milgate

Worksop Town 4
Burley (pen 50)
White 55, 83
Glass 74
Durham City 0

After an even first half of few chances City were knocked back by a debatable penalty for the second week running, the final score line flattering the hosts somewhat and giving City no credit for their efforts but well-deserved praise and applause from their generous victors.
Some twenty three minutes had elapsed before the first goal attempt, Andy White planting a free-header wide of the near post from a Matt Glass cross; two minutes later Conor Winter tried his luck from twenty yards out, but Jon Kennedy was well behind the shot.
Poor passing by both sides aborted many promising moves at either end before Adam Burley hit the crossbar with a shot in the fourth minute of added-on time.
Worksop virtually had the game in the bag within ten minutes of the re-start: after Dion Chambers had gifted Richard Heiniger a comfortable save, skipper Andrew Stephenson was adjudged to have handled the ball in the penalty area, Burley netting from the spot after a stuttering run-up.
In quick succession Gary Townsend drove wide of the post and Danny Bacon forced Heiniger to tip over his rising drive for a corner from which Andy White scored with more than a little help from the hapless Stephenson.
For City Joshua Home-Jackson lofted two long-range efforts over the bar before Glass almost punished City for daydreaming on 70minutes when he forced Heiniger to concede a corner following a quickly-taken free-kick in the centre circle.
Some four minutes later Glass had more joy when he registered his side's third goal, deflecting a grubber of a free-kick into the box.
Worksop were understandably playing now with greater confidence and forcing City evermore onto the back foot, White turning home a right-wing cross to complete a personal double.
Sub Chris Adam caught the eye with several late determined runs at City's defence and forced Heiniger into a fine left-handed save for a corner.
City tried their utmost to get something out of the game and continued to hit on the counter right to the end, but to no avail.
