The Casuals piece that will appear in the First Team match programme for tomorrow's CML game against Bentley Colliery...
Newbald United clinched second spot behind the Casuals in Division 5, following a thumping 4-1 victory over Brandesburton Academy last Saturday.
The result ensured the hosts pipped Shiptonthorpe United Reserves for what should be the second automatic promotion slot.
Meanwhile the Casuals’ dominance of the division can be seen by the fact they have finished a staggering 14pts clear of their nearest challengers!
A further measure of the team’s success will be gauged by the number of players progressing further up the ladder. To this end, the inclusion of Ben Akam, Lewis Green (pictured), Danny Cundill and James Hope in recent Reserves line-ups is a good start.
All four of the above players are expected to return to the Casuals ranks in time for the Harold Robinson Cup semi-final against Skirlaugh Reserves on 17th April.
Manager Iain McNaught’s main aim now is to get the rest of his squad some game-time before the above date.
At time of going to print, the boss was still looking at fixing up a friendly against either Withernsea Thirds or Bilton Athletic for today, simply in order to give his side a run-out.
The Casuals’ semi-final opponents are also hoping to complete a league and cup double, having maintained their pursuit of the Division 4 title with a 4-0 win over Leven MC Reserves at the weekend.
Skirlaugh remain second in the table, 7pts behind leaders Nafferton Old Boys with two games in hand. They face two must-win games against Molescroft Rangers Reserves and Hornsea Town Thirds prior to the semi-final at Hill Top.
