Local lad Doug began his association with Easington United as a 14-year-old in 1962 ("I used to play for Withernsea School in the morning, bike home and then set off to play for Easington in the afternoon"). Within a couple of years the young Clubley was following his father Gordon (Chairman from 1958-61) onto the Club Committee where he was elected joint-secretary with Morris Biglin. On the playing side he became vice-captain to Brian Biglin in 1968 before succeeding him as skipper three years later. His playing career spanned three decades although injury curtailed his regular appearances in 1978. Elected Chairman at the 1974 AGM, Doug has remained in post for 34 years and his 45 years' continued service with the Eastenders was recognised by an award at the Diamond Celebration Event in June 2007.
