All eyes were on East Manchester's first team this weekend as they took on Prestwich Heys at home in the first round of the Gilcryst Cup. The two teams met on the opening day of the season and ended in a 1-1 draw. It was the same result this time round after 90 minutes although the visitors finally edged it with a 5-3 spot kick victory. Mark Wright had put East ahead before Prestwich levelled 10 minutes later. East only have the league to pursue having been knocked out of both cup competitions in successive weeks.
Next weekend sees the Reserves in cup action in the Manchester Amateur Cup as they travel to Manchester Rovers. East knocked out Parrswood Celtic in the first round with a narrow 1-0 win which was on own goal. Managers Parkin and Wilkinson will hope for a better display from their players this time round especially after 2 league defeats on the bounce.
The first team return to league action as they take on Royton Town at Wright Robinson. Managing Staff Stanley, O'Connor and Mills will be hoping to get back to winning ways after a disappointing fortnight's results.
