Report

For the return game against Newcastle Town we managed to have just 10 players from the start, due to injury, illness and once again a no show. Before I write any more I would like to say on behalf of the management team how proud we were of the team's performance. They started off at a fast tempo and almost scored with their first attack from the kick off. Newcastle broke through and scored after 20 minutes, (our hearts sank!). Just 5 minutes later following a flowing move from goalkeeper through back four and midfield, Ethan Morrey latched on to a through ball, held it up and laid it off for Tom Webb to slot it in with his left foot. A terrific team goal. There was no score until just on half time when Newcastle got their 2nd. Spectators arriving after kick off weren't aware of us only having 10, such ws the quality of our performance. The second half continued as before, with some stout and resolute defending from all and when they did break through they found Rory Farmer on the top of his game. It wasn't until the 60th minute the third Newcastle goal went in. We knew we had them worried when the tackles started to fly in and once again I felt that one of their players was lucky not to be dismissed following a two footed studs up lunge from behind on one of our midfielders. He was booked followed by his victim some 10 minutes later. We continued to press and Toby Taylor had a superb shot well saved by their keeper. The fourth goal was a contraversial one as one of our centre backswas clearly kicked off the ball as he went in to make the saving tackle. This allowed Newcastle to take advantage and score their 4th. Again we started to tire as the pitch became very sticky and the inevitable 5th goal went in right on 75 minutes. Our Lads never let their heads go down and were actually pushing forward when the final whistle went.
I would like to point out that this victory meant that Newcastle went to the top of the league. Considering we had lost in the previous game a fortnight ago 11 - 1 this was a very much improved performance and we should be proud of the manner in which we kept going and the very evident team spirit. Not one moan was heard from our side. I am hoping that we shall soon be able to take on a couple of new recruits and so give us the ability to put on fresh legs when needed. However, once again "Well Done Lads!!"
