Film makers back young footballers

A group of enterprising media students from Stafford College are busy helping Eccleshall Eagles Junior Football Club to raise £400,000 for the creation of six new junior football pitches. The student film producers are making a short film to put funding providers in the picture about what the Club is trying to achieve through ambitious investment in pitches and facilities.

The idea to produce a promotional video to support the club’s bid for funding came from Stafford College’s Media Studies Course Leader, Bill Bell. Having learned about the club’s challenge in local press reports, the lecturer suggested that students on The Foundation Degree in Film and Television Production, Technology & Management could support the young footballers by producing a video to illustrate the benefits that the new facilities could offer to young people in the area.

“Having seen the films made recently to accompany some of the national sports bids, I was confident that students on the Foundation Degree course could deliver something in a similar vein, which would help Eccleshall Eagles secure the funding that they need in challenging economic circumstances,” explained Bill Bell.

“Throughout the course, students on the Foundation Degree are involved in producing short videos for clients so that they can build up a portfolio of live projects. This course aims to overcome the obstacle faced by graduates who lack the genuine work experience required by employers.”

Eccleshall Eagles Junior Football Club’s Chairman, Jon Busfield said: “Without these facilities we will be unable to increase the number of teams that we currently run and might even have to limit the number of new players that we can coach in the future. To have an organisation as respected as Stafford College lend their expertise to support the delivery of this dream is a massive boost for our appeal. The film will be a very vivid way for us to demonstrate how the development of this community-based club will touch the lives of young people locally.”
