Eccleston United Football Club was formed in 1988 by John Armitage (Club Secretary & Open Age Manager) and Eddie Styles (Treasurer 1988 - 2000).

The first Eccleston United FC team was an Under 10's team who played in the St. Helens Byrne Hire Junior League. The club continued to expand into further age groups and progressed to enter into the
St. Helens JOL Junior League and the St. Helens & District Combination (Open Age) League.
In the late 1990's the club reached it's peak and had 9 (nine) teams from Under 8's to Open Age.

Our club has always been proud of its 'Fair Play' and 'Sportsmanship' approach and has received a variety of awards in this category.

A number of players have also represented the town (St. Helens) at a higher level and gone on tours to Belgium and Holland with the St. Helens JOL League.

Today though we have just one team 'Open Age' level in the St. Helens & District Combination League, which I am proud to say gained promotion from the 3rd Division to the Premier Division in successive years (1997- 2000) and maintained their position in the top flight until season 2005-06 when they were relegated to the 1st Division.

We also have players who are still with the club 20 years after its inauguration and continue our tradition of 'Fair Play' and 'Sportsmanship'.

What do you think of coloured football boots?
Not for me thanks. Football boots should be black - end of story.
Yeah, colour all the way! Get with it grandad!
