Report

Edinburgh City reached their second final of the season with a commendable victory over League Cup holders Spartans at Ainslie Park this afternoon.  With City missing the services of Miles Hunter, Andy Howat, Scott Macfarlane, Ryan Wilson and Mark Torrance going into this semi-final, the depth and quality of the squad was evident as the visitors triumphed and can now look forward to another final against Whitehill Welfare with the probable venue at St. Marks Park on Tuesday 15th of May. The home side started well with recently promoted youngster Sean Wringe from their Junior outfit forcing a point blank save from City keeper Stobie.  City were slowly settling into a rhythm and it was no surprise when the visitors scored first. After good work from Paul Devlin his pass to Ross Guthrie  was smashed into the top corner from 20 yards out giving Spartans keeper Flockhart no chance. City doubled their lead in 36 minutes when top scorer Robbie Ross rose to head home from an acute angle. Ruairidh Scott then went close from a Dougie Gair corner kick as City went looking to extend their advantage. On 41 minutes City striker Ross scored his second and the Citizen’s third with another excellent strike from the edge of the box. HT 3-0

The predictable push from the home side after the interval was expected but never sustained over a period as City looked to protect their well earned advantage and counter attack at every opportunity. Spartans did pull a goal back after a triple substitution, with a well struck Gavin Malin drive from 18 yards. FT 3-1
