Report

A great way for The Lions to end their season by winning the BYDL Cup for the third year running!

Once again Eldon faced Woodley Town Kestrels in a repeat of last year's Final. The Lions started well and certainly had the majority of the possession in the first half. However Woodley had two chances, one effort hit the bar and the second forced an excellent save from Tristan Chamberlain in goal.

With the score 0 - 0 at the interval Eldon's Manager asked his players for the same work rate and intensity in the second period. Richard Osei and Noah Agard were controlling the midfield and the back four were resolute. The difference would turn out to be who could be more clinical in front of goal.

Eldon started the second half where they had left off and put the team from Woodley under immense pressure. Tawanda Kanyagarara passed to Stephane Akmel on the edge of Woodley's box and opened the scoring with a blistering strike.

Eldon's second half keeper was rarely tested but a clever piece of individual play saw Woodley equalise with 20 minutes remaining.

Eldon were in no mood to lose their grip on the game and within 10 minutes had regained their lead again. Mark Swadling's floated free kick was flicked on by Simeon Weekes making the score 2 - 1 to The Lions.

Shortly after Eldon killed the game off when Alpha Conteh finished clinically after a mazy run into the box. The final score finished 3 -1 to Eldon which was the same score line as the year before!

The player of the match award was given to Bradley Welch. He missed out on the final last year after suffering a long term injury but was an inspiration to the team with his hard work and determination.
