Glenn joined the club on a free transfer in August 2011, stepping into the only big things about previous manager Dave Blackett, his shoes. Glenn has been quick to stamp his authority on the club, introducing a fitness programme that is clearly paying dividends. His old school coaching style, generally stood in a warm tracksuit shouting at us in the freezing cold to work harder, was a bit of shock from the more ball centred approach of Dave, but the results are there for all to see. Glenn loves a catch phrase, and the boys have been introduced to such delights as 'Dogs at broth' and 'New Best Friend'! Another frequent mantra is ‘Pass to blue’ which always goes down a treat when we’re playing in white.
Given his dedication to fitness, and his renown for long bike rides around the North East, Glenn’s own physique may come as something of a surprise, but that would only be until your first visit to the Jones family home, and experience of Kim’s remarkable cooking. In this light, full credit must be given to Glenn for not being the size of a house. Her catering for the inaugural ECFC Alpha Course has encouraged attendees to drag the course on for as many weeks as possible in order to continue sampling her efforts, and plans are afoot to turn the course into a continuous rolling (in more sense than one) programme.
Glenn gives everything to the cause, barking orders for 90 minutes solid and generally living every moment of the game as though doing it all himself. The not infrequent hurling of the water bottle to the ground in frustration as another chance goes begging always adds a touch of comedy to proceedings.
Glenn has been keen to make the side less predictable, certainly Ben, Mike and Steve have made it their weekly entertainment to attempt to predict the starting line up and formation, generally with minimal success. Rumours that Ryan has been paying the coach to play him up front and drop Ben back into midfield are denied vehemently, maybe too vehemently, by all parties concerned.
