McClaren set for Ettington talks |
| Date: 07/02/07 |
In the wake of yet another disappointing England defeat - this time to Spain - rumours are abound that Steve McClaren could be on his way to Roger's Lane in what would be a sensational swoop by the Ettington board.
Current gaffer Steve Price is on the lookout for his long term successor and has made discreet enquiries into the exploitation of a get-out clause in the under-fire England chief's current contract.
With the sale of the company fleet of Jaguars financing the deal, Pricey admits it could be a reality, but is determined to keep everyone's feet firmly on the ground. "Yes it's true that we've initiated proceedings to try and bring him here, but we're a long way off celebrating yet and we must stay focused on the pitch", said the gaffer. "Distractions like these can unsettle the squad and at this crucial point in the season that's the last thing we need."
There were mixed comments from the players on the potential appointment of McClaren however, with many feeling that the club should set their sights higher. "He's useless," said veteran midfielder Emerson Welch. "He's about as much use as Laingy without a DVD collection. We should aim to bring in someone with top flight experience."
Other potential candidates for the position are muted to be cigar smoking Marcello Lippi and Rudi Voller's best pal Frank Rijkaard.

Tim Green opens contract extension talks |
| Date: 31/01/07 |
Negotiations have started with key defender Tim Green to keep him at the club until 2014.
TG is now regularly leading out the squad as captain, and manager Pricey is keen to hold on to the former Leamington Youth player, particularly as there have been enquiries flooding in from London-based Premiership outfits.
"TG is a central part of my plans for Ettington Football Club and keeping him here is one of my biggest priorities. We are not a selling club and in fact I will be looking to add to the squad over the coming weeks."
Green's new contract is reported to net him around £95,000 per week plus foul bonuses.
