A Little Piece Of History Euxton F.C - Circa 1983 Renamed as Euxton Villa F.C the following season. Euxton Villa was formed in the 1907-1908 season and played in the West Lancashire League until 1910 as far as the records can be found. They then progressed into the Preston & District League winning many titles along the way. After the war the club became known as Euxton FC. and they played on many grounds because of the poor conditions of Greenside playing fields, in Euxton itself. The club has played home games at Croston, Leyland, Chorley as well as being nomadic for a few seasons. ‘Euxton’ and another local team ‘Euxton Albion’ played on a ground just off Runshaw Lane , where the shops are now we’re told. This all changed in 1986 when Euxton managed to purchase their own land in Runshaw Hall Lane , Euxton. From this land they managed to create three full size pitches, a junior pitch and small training area’s. In 1988 Euxton amalgamated with Euxton Villa Juniors to become known as Euxton Villa FC. The club now has some 18 teams at all age groups playing in various leagues. Former players include David Unsworth (Everton and England ), Chris Speak (Blackpool), David Bonner ( Cardiff ) and many more semi-professional players. The senior teams now play in the West Lancashire Leagues but owe a large debt to the Preston & District League. The clubs highlight was the winning of the Guild Hall Cup in April 2001 when the scoreline read Euxton Villa 2-1 Southport Trinity.
Euxton Villa First Team - 7th August 2004 SAD DAY FOR ALL First Team Manager Mark McDonnell has penned these few words in tribute to our friend and colleague Mick Treadwell : Michael Treadwell (Tredy) 7th April 1954 – 13th January 2008 Euxton Villa FC would like to pass on its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Mick Treadwell. Mick passed away suddenly on Sunday 13th January 2008, and will be sorely missed by many, many friends from both football and the local area. Mick’s commitment to football resulted in over 30 years at Euxton Villa FC, commencing like most, as a young player, following on into team management. Mick has played many roles and contributed enormously to the clubs growth and success which include; First Team Manager, Reserve Team Manager and more recently a hugely successful few years, managing the Over 35’s team. Mick and the Over 35s have achieved great success over recent years including reaching their cup finals at Macclesfield, Stockport County, Rushdens & Diamonds and West Bromwich Albion In addition many of you may remember Mick having numerous successful Sunday league teams namely, Heapy Lions / Chorley Upholstery / Talbot FC Mick has been a fantastic lifelong “servant” to Euxton Villa FC and to local football in general and without people like him, grass roots football clubs and leagues would not exist. Mick was a true passionate footballing man, with a heart of gold and tireless commitment to his team, club and success both on and off the field. Mick will be sadly missed by many, and his untimely departure is a big loss to both the Club and the local footballing community.
Rest in Peace “Tredy”.
