Report

Eynesbury Rovers finished their season with a win atHall Roadafter the fixture was postponed for a week due to a waterlogged pitch. They completed the double over struggling Sileby Rangers to finish the season in sixth place to equal last seasons finish. Lee Bassett scored twice to take his goal tally for the season to 27 in 37 appearances whilst Jeremy McMurrough scored his eighth goal of the campaign.

Rovers made just two changes from the side that had won 7-1 atRothwellTownin the previous outing. Dan Woodhead and Greg Thorndick came in for Tom Coles and Ben Cole.

It took the hosts just two minutes to take the lead as Ross West and Shaun Flack combined well to find Greg Thorndick. The teenager pulled the ball back from the bye line for Bassett to beat the goalkeeper at the second attempt after he had fumbled Bassett’s first shot.

Just six minutes later Eynesbury went 2-0 up as Bassett rounded off another good Rovers move with a low drive into the corner from 17 yards. Rovers dominated the opening stages and at one time they threatened to overrun Sileby. However, they had to wait until the 85th minute before they added a third goal. Jeremy McMurrough beat the goalkeeper with a delightful chip from the edge of the D.

Two minutes later Dan Woodhead was adjudged to have handled the ball as it was blasted at him inside the penalty area and the visitors were awarded a penalty. Dan Brown converted from the spot but it was no more than a late consolation.
