Report

From the Desert heat of last week to the tropical downpour of this. A difficult playing surface to say the least. Ive been told to keep it short this week as some people had trouble reading the full report last week. So well done everyone and a good 2-0 win........

Ok lets start at the begining. We decided to kick down hill and had the help of both the wind and rain. This should in theroy have given us the edge however every through ball seemed to gain pace and race away from me, which was not surprising but Rod aswell. With a new defence coping very well at the back I cant remember one shot they had on target in the first. Both Dave and Ian in the middle and Gary and Jim on the wings putting it about a bit we seemed to totally dominate the first half without converting any chances.
Two points of note from the first half an excellent save by their keeper following a curling shot by Waine that had Dave Thompson congratulating me on a stunning goal only to see him come flying across the goal to tip the ball away for a corner. The second was a crunching tackle by guess who Dave Thompson on thier keeper after he had dropped the ball following a corner. Sure I heard Dave Thompson say 'that serves you right for the last save' on his way back to the halfway liine. Actually there is a third and that was the great free kick from Dave that seemed to evade everyone except Rod who had a free header at the far post, but sorry to say it almost went out for a throw, ( you got away last week Rod not this.)

The second half saw two more debutants with Mark Loxdale coming on at right back and Geoff Orchard on up front. Both of whom aquitted themselves very well. Rod moved back to the midfield which semed to suit him better. We then had chance after chance and corner after corner it got to the point where I thought we were never going to score. Rod I won't name you its just not fair. However just as we began to get frustarted a change of corner style saw near post low cross by Waine being dunmbied by Ian then to be honest god knows what happened but it eventually canoned off a couple of their defenders and crept into the far corner.

I did try to claim this in the bar but got shouted down rather quickly. This goal calmed us down and we began to play some very nice short football. Jim and Gary found more space down the wings and our superior fitness , yes I did just say that, started to show. Dave made a Hoddle like pass forward and found Waine in space on the left. Waine strolled forward and eventually after being closed down hammered a shot goalwards. The keeper got one hand to it but the power was to much and it crept over the line. 2-0 job done.

We reverted to 5 in the middle leaving Geoff to cope with the back four. This shored things up and we saw the game out.

A big well done to Andy in goal, two clean sheets Lee what you gonna do????, and the back four. They kept what attacking options they had very quiet.

My MOM Rod Marage. Excellent work rate just need to find the goal , enough said.

Next week.
