History

The beginning
09 Sep 2010

The Jets were formed in the summer of 2009 and were one of the first two teams to come from the club's successful development group - The Flyers.

2009-10 - Under 9
09 Sep 2010

This was the Jets first season and it could not have got of to a worse start when they conceded a goal in the first minute of their opening game against Hart before going down 3-1, with Oliver Stone having the honour of being the Jets first ever goalscorer.

However, the Jets were able to gain instant revenge when the teams met again a week later when the previous week's nerves were gone and the result was a well deserved 4-1 scoreline for their first victory.

The second victory came a fortnight later, against Fleet Spurs, but the Jets had to wait 12 matches before the next one came along when they suffered a completely undeserved 11 match losing streak although they were rarely outplayed during this time and six of those defeats were by a single goal. The biggest problem that faced the team was the inability to score with the first 15 games yielding just 18 goals.

The victory eventually came in Match against local rivals Cove when positional and formation changes paid dividends as the Jets won 3-0 much to the relief of players, parents and management.

This gave the team that added confidence and self-belief that had been lacking and what followed was a six match unbeaten run to end the season, with five victories and one draw and scoring 18 goals in the process. The highlight of this was against Camberley Boys Maroons when Joe Haustead scored the Jets first ever hatrick, a feat that he repeated a week later against Badshot Lea.

This was good way to end the season and should ensure that the team are confident as they move up to competitive football in 2010-11.

The Jets held their presentation day at Queens Road on Saturday 10th July and the recipients of the season's awards were:

Supporters Player of the Year: Alfie O'Connor
Players Player of the Year: Alfie O'Connor
Managers Player of the Year: Sam Peacock
