A very sunny spring morning welcomed Hook over to Farnborough for a rematch on Hook's 2-1 victory earlier in the season with a match that if Farnborough won, they would confirm 3rd place in the league. First problem of the morning came when a piece of goal was missing, so duct tape had to be used to make sure it was all fixed together - worked well!
It wasn't long before the game was underway and unlike recent weeks, Farnborough started off slightly slowly allowing Hook to settle quickly and set up their defensive units. The first attack of note came when Farnborough broke forward and won a corner that was well defended. Farnborough continued to push forward and threaten - particularly through the ever dangerous twisting and turning Luke and it was him who had the first real chance. After some good chasing down, he found himself one on one with the keeper at a difficult angle but still produced a good shot that the goalkeeper did well to divert over. With Oliver and Malachi on form in defence and George sitting in the missing Joona's position, Farnborough were given the base to push on forward with Levi, Cameron, Ajay and Luke. The later produced the first goal. The ball was poked forward to Luke who turned inside one and struck an unstoppable shot past the goalkeeper. 1-0. This was Luke's third goal in four games - a rich vein of form. It was Luke again who had the last chance of the half as after a wonderful through ball from Ajay set him free. From a tight angle, he sent a blistering shot towards the goal only for it to just go over with the goalkeeper surely beaten.
Half time - 1-0.
The second half saw Farnborough once again start slowly and within 5 minutes they were punished after switching off at a corner. A short corner was taken with Farnborough just standing still and watching allowing a Hook striker to run the ball in the box, take it past one and strike it in off the underside of the bar. 1-1. This was much like the Hart goal of a few weeks ago and considering these are the only two goals conceded in the last four games - the concentration from dead balls needs to be improved! This only pushed Farnborough on though and came extremely close to the second goal on numerous occasions. Firstly, after a brilliant run by Luke, he did the right thing cutting the ball back only for it to just go behind the on-rushing Cameron and Levi. A few long range attempts from Ajay and George followed after soon good work from Logan before the first real clear opportunity came since the equaliser. After some good build up play, the ball broke to an extremely advanced Malachi on the edge of the area who had more time than he realised and his thunderous shot went over the bar. It stayed 1-1 till almost the last kick of the game. Farnborough won a last minute corner and in the true sense of all or nothing, Farnborough put every single outfield player in the box. As Ajay swung a beautiful corner in, a Hook defender sliced it towards the goal and another defender had his arms up and blocked it with them. Clear penalty and a chance for Ajay to win the game. Having being used to seeing Ajay smash them into the roof of the net, he surprised everyone with a calm side foot with power into the bottom corner to send the Farnborough crowd into raptures. 2-1.
Full time - 2-1.
A brilliant game and a great performance to mean four wins on the spin with only two goals conceded. Very pleasing form and with the last game of the season away at Curley Park next week, Farnborough will hope to end it in style with five straight wins for the first time this season. Man of the match this week went to Theo who could have had it most games this season for keeping us in the game many-a-time but the last few weeks, he has been a spectator mostly but when called upon, has kept the concentration needed.
