Sun 16 Nov 2008  Cup
Beaulieu 1
Farnborough Youth Under 17 Colts 3
Leroy Bosha (1)
James Turnell (2)

The Colts progressed to the second round with a comfortable, if not convincing, victory against a Beaulieu team from the division below.

The hosts set their stall up early with ten men behind the ball and this restricted the Colts opportunities but when they did find a way through the Beaulieu keeper, who was their best player by far, kept them at bay. Harry Liniker, who had his best game of the season so far, came close to opening the scoring when he arrived at the far post to get on the end of Alex Wojciechowski's through ball, but he could not quite get enough on the ball to steer it in.

The deadlock was broken after twenty minutes when James Turnell capitalised on some hesitation in the Beaulieu midfield and played an inch perfect crossfield ball for fellow striker Leroy Bosha whose drive was halted when he was brought down by the home defender. Turnell stepped up and maintained his 100% record from twelve yards to open the scoring.

The second soon arrived when another ball from the left, this time from the excellent Dan Ham, went through to Bosha who again drove into the box but this time he got away from the defender and rifled the ball into the corner from the edge of the box.

Beaulieu then started to get more into the game but the Colts back stood firm and not only easily thwarted their opponents attacks but also work to create them with full backs James Fisher and Dan Hyam both looking to play the ball down the wings to stretch the play but no more goals were scored in the first half.

The second half started much the same as the first, with the Colts dominating possession, and two became three when 'keeper Scott Upward bravely gathered at the feet of a Beaulieu forward before throwing to Chris Trueman on the left wing, who beat three players before sliding the ball to Turnell for his second of the game and fourteenth of the season.

This allowed the Colts management to ring the changes and they brought on their three subs but they still dominated the play although the potential clean sheet was lost when substitute Mark Parrant gave away a late penalty that was put away for a consolation goal.

This was a much improved performance than the previous game and the team had a togetherness that has been missing in recent weeks.
