In depth "history" update of the exciting proposed "return" of NASA_(Continental) II, bringing together the last true BME "Multi-cultural" ambassador of the region, never mind the competition itself.. With the onset of season (2009-10) teams are jostling for position, looking for the best opportunities, signing of top players etc, etc.. Probable "Mergers" could also spice things up even further before the "big-kick off".. Moorside-Backworth, hooking up with players from the 'defunct' Alamo set up, Sth Gosforth either folding or joining up with Hazelrigg's Victory and North Tyne's stars boosting the Byker Bees challenge in the coming season. They will all have to be on their mettle, as nothing much got in the way of Collingwood FC and Heaton Rifles last time around. Beware the cultured footballers of NASA though. 'Kingpin' Akpofure continues to defy his critics and those who wrote his 'last rites' both in the regional game and further afield should think again..... The show must and will go on.. Allez NASA! - Players come and players go, but still the quality and class remains............
2007-13-05- NASA_(Continental) (pictured) overcame cup holders North Tyne to win their 1st major trophy in the CCL. "Hotshot" Louis "Lewy" Ansah's hat-trick and a MOM display from Ray Oshin sealed the win in front of a decent crowd @ Cowgate SG. What with the victories of first Fawdon & then NASA - Sunday 20/5 will see both teams vying for a prestigious league/cup "double".
The CCL Grand Final on 2007-20-05 will feature long time "red hot favourites" Fawdon Park & NASA_(Continental).. Both Group B sides came through tough, committed, quality (Semi-Final's) against (Group A's) Central Heaton & former Champs North Tyne @ Benfield SC.
What a cracker of a final we can all look forward to come Sunday! Billed as a potential "game of the season".. With the likes of Roy Gordon, "Dazzler" Darren & "Captain Fantastic" David Brown, Huntley (hopefully he'll be fit to take his place in their side), Angier, "Hot Shot" Adam Chaytor & brother Ross, Andrew Graham, The Baker(s), Naples etc, etc for Fawdon, while "Top Cat" Chris Sessford, "Hotshot" Lewy Ansah, "Superstar Frontman" Naby Beny Dumbuya, "Raymeo" Oshin, (last season's Player of the Year) Franky "Big Daddy" Ben, (my personal "signing of the season") Edyson "Mballa" Anwufor, outgoing club captain Gil "Eusebio" Henriques, Rigobent "Jonny" Song, Dan "The Rock" Francis, Damien "Rolls Royce" Coia, Diaby "Ronaldo" Homed etc, for NASA make it a "mouthwatering" prospect indeed..
I make no excuses for the sad "hype", but truly there are a host of "Superstars" on show on both sides..
A touch of added "spice" can also be thrown in, with such a clash of styles, cultures, characters, personalities, etc, etc and a bit of "needle" allied to "edge" involved from "unsavoury" incident's in the 2 sides previous meetings, the match will surely highlight the rapidly improving standards of this "unique" format competition. It is already a "must see game" with a tremendous turnout guaranteed. Hopefully "Football" will prove to be the winner and the fast growing reputation of this 4th season league programme will be further enhanced in front of a massive crowd..
Title favourites Fawdon Park won the CCL Grand Champions Final at Killingworth Young People's Club KYPC, beating 10 man NASA (4-3) after extra time (AET). In what can only be described as a "proper" game of football, the match had virtually everything!! "CHEERLEADERS", 7 GOALS, 8 CARDS, 1 Sending Off, an on-field mini brawl and a "lost CCL Matchball"?.. Fawdon however, looked the more hungry and apparently wanted it that bit more?, while NASA came out of the blocks slow, albeit taking the lead on 2 occasions.
Keeper Sessford kept the "Continental" lads in the game throughout, with brilliant saves from Chaytor, Graham, Baker and Gordon, while NASA'S Beny hit the crossbar, scored a terrific goal and saw a "one on one" brilliantly saved by Fawdon's Keeper Baker in the last 5 mins. Fawdon had taken a 3-2 second half lead, with a highly dubious, hotly contested penalty, given by Asst Ref Mason, which also resulted in the sending off of defender Song. That changed the game and meant "Continental" having to battle for around 40+ mins with 10 men!!
Having said that, their 4 crucial second half misses eventually proved highly costly, although Fawdon's were just as many if not more, so the result was probably the correct one on the day. Fawdon came with a practical "game plan" and carried it out to perfection. Their "big" players came to the fore and showed their quality when it mattered.
All told Fawdon were the better side over the course of the season and fully deserved their win, in a tremendous advert for the standard and quality of this soon to be 4th season league competition.
