History

The story of the birth of FC Nomads
11 Aug 2009

It’s normally once in a lifetime when we witness a piece of history, however in sport it seems to be commonplace these days, for business to interfere with our love of football. Just look at the fall and rise of AFC Wimbledon, the rebirth of Aldershot, the sad story of Newport and even Manchester United supporters starting a team of their own, in protest at the way big business ruins football.

During the 2008/09 season stories started to circulate and reality set in, that Connah’s Quay may lose it’s football team for the first time since 1890. To make matters worse, it looked like they would merge with local rivals Flint. Wheels were then set in motion by a group of long time supporters and local football experts, to preserve football in Connah’s Quay. After many meetings and obstacles we are now proud to announce the birth of a brand new club for the community of Connah’s Quay:

FC Nomads of Connah’s Quay

Who are FC Nomads of Connah’s Quay? We have been established by two of Connah’s Quay Nomads long time supporters, their former secretary Bobby Hunter and local businessman Brian Hughes. They have been assisted by a strong committee of residents and the support of local councillors, all keen to keep football in the town.

FC Nomads of Connah’s Quay has the same ambitions as have always been in the constitution of the original club. These are to play at the highest level of football in Wales and to bring European football to the town. We aim to do that as fast as possible.

The team will be managed by Dave Johnson, who has already built a large squad of quality local footballers. Dave has experience of Welsh Premier League football with Connah’s Quay Nomads and has managed Sealand Rovers, taking them to the Clwyd Premier League.

FC Nomads of Connah’s Quay will start life in the Clwyd League Division 2 and will aim for promotion in our first season. We will play at Wepre Park this season and supporters can be confident of having a great time on a Saturday afternoon. The club will produce a programme which may be unusual at this level but our supporters are used to buying programmes and look forward to reading the articles and statistics contained.

We urge all those who support keeping football in Connah’s Quay to come along and watch us on a Saturday afternoon. Cheer on the lads as we rise up the leagues and by-pass “GAP FLINT NOMADS” on our way to Europe!
