12 Aug 2006

Felling Leam Rangers Football Club, formerly Felling Ship Inn, Felling Holly Hill,Felling Portland Arms and Felling Cricket Club. The Club has been established for fourteen years. It started off in the Tyneside Combination Sunday Afternoon League in 1992 leaving in 1997 after clinching both Second and First Division Titles, the latter two seasons running, and four cups. The club then ventured into the Newcastle Central Sunday Afternoon League clinching automatic promotion in its first season and finishing runners up in the Woodlawns Cup. In there second season the club triumphed in two cup competitions and finished runners up on goal difference. In 1999 the club formed a second team to compete in the Tyneside Sunday Morning League. 2000-2001 saw both the morning and afternoon teams win there respective divisions with a combined squad of thirty players, most competing in both leagues. The summer of 2001 saw the disbanding of the afternoon as the club members decided at there annual general meeting that they should concentrate all there efforts on Sunday morning football. We then decided to set sail from ‘The Ship’ and look for a new sponsor. After talks with the committee at ‘Felling Cricket Club’ we joined together to give Felling its first joint sports club. With our new clubhouse we moved into the Gateshead And District Sunday League Second Division and just missed out on promotion finishing fourth. We did however lift the Second Division Cup beating League Winners Dunston Excelsior 2-1 in a thrilling final. The following season we clinched promotion as runners up, became the first Second Division to team to reach the Bob Curry Cup Final losing 3-0 to Fiddlers and we retained the Second Division Cup beating Dunston Social 5-3. We struggled in our first season in the First Division but avoided relegation on the last day of the season drawing 2-2 with Barley Mow. Last term saw us finish a creditable fourth with Chris Heron finishing as the leagues top scorer with 54 goals. We narrowly missed out on two Cup Finals losing to the Allerdene in the Semi-Final of the First Division Cup and the Quarter-Finals of the Bob Curry Cup.
