Fernhill Thistle
Cotters Bar

Fernhill thistle 0-0 cotters bar
what a game. The 0-0 score line suggests a bore draw but this was anything but with two good teams going at it from the start, blood guts and snotters.
The action was end to end and indeed any team could have scored but both goalkeepers were in exceptional form pulling off save after save at either end. The play to and flowed either side and barely a breath was caught, both teams guilty of wasting possession and some poor finishing but chances aplenty. in truth cotters bar edged the first half 60-40
the second half started at electric pace with Fernhill thistle now taking the game to cotters had a great chance when Kilmartin broke free of the cotters defence raced towards goal leaving the cotters players in his wake Kilmartin placed it low but the keeper somehow managed to get a hand to it to turn it round the post.
Fernhill thistle pounded cotters and had a further 4 one on ones with the keeper with Fay, Kilmartin and Tait failing to find the net,
on the plus side at least the chances were being made.
On the 76th minute peter Fay’s trickery enticed the cotters number 3 into making a rash tackle in the box leaving referee Colin Campbell no option but to award a penalty.
peter Fay stepped up to hit the penalty and whether it was nerves or indecision hit a poor penalty which the keeper saved with ease, Fay will know he should have done better with this.
Fernhill could have been sent reeling by this but came out fighting again and pounded down the cotters defence, Fay on the right was taking the cotters left back to the cleaners and chance after chance fell to Fernhill to no avail. Mark Campbell was commanding in midfield and won many a ball with his crunching tackle.
the ref was to allow 5 minutes injury time and Fernhill thistle made the last push to win the game cotters on the other hand were holding out for the draw, at the final whistle the Fernhill players trudged off the park with there heads down, this felt like a defeat, Fernhill's winning run of 15 games came to an end although obviously they got the point.
with Shettleston having been expelled from the league for playing junior players this point would have effectively have won the league for Fernhill thistle today but due to Shettleston’s appeal pending all thoughts of the league championship have to be put aside for the time being.
Fernhill thistle will play Castlemilk dynamo on Thursday at the public park in Cambuslang with a 6-45 kick off.
