Club History (03/07/06)

Formed in 1999 by Paul Spencer, opted for the Cheltenham League due to the rivalry of White City FC and the Gloucester North League would not accept the club. Due to a poor start to the 1999-2000 season and players coming and going, the ony highlight of the first season was beating St Marks 3-2 at there ground on the fnal game of the season, Finlay Rovers finished bottom in the first season.

-2001 Much the same season as the previous, but had more convincing wins and with a mix of youth and experience Finlay were starting to form a team to build around, due to lack of facititys Finlay put in a request from the National Lottery and recieved 3000 poundfor the mens and youth team for football equipment. At the end of the season the club was back in debt due to red cards and lack of payment from youth and men, Paul Spencer decided to quit as manager

-2002 We had an AGM meeting and elected a new committee and manager, Steve (Scully) become manager, Tony Martindale was Chairman/Secutary with Jason Dallimore helping out. Finaly started to get comfortable with the new backroom team. We started doinf football cards and inviting teams back to our local pub, actually gaining profit from which at the beginning of the season we were in debt, During the season one of our players got into a spat with another player from the opposition and the league was informed, At the end of the season in which we ended up third from bottom, Finaly were summond to the FA, Tony Martindale and Philip Bartlett went and spoke to the board where Tony had new sponsors, new players, we agreed to get rid of all the players that coursed trouble.

-2003 Finlay Rovers had what we would call a brilliant season compared with the last three, we were promoted up to division 4 ad we were in the league cup final.

-2004 We had enough players to establish two teams in the league. The first team done very well in the league and got promoted again to division 3. Whilst the reserves had great team spirit and got to the League Cup Final losing narrowly 2-1 against Belmore Jags Res.

-2005 The first team had another excellent season coming second in the league and getting promoted again for the third year running with Tony Martindale as there manager, the reserves came 6th in divison 5, there best season to date. Saldy Tony passed away during the course of the season with give the team extra determenation to do Tony proud

-2006 The first team started well with ten wins from ten games and well the rest in history, same for the reserves, the club had a very difficult season and glad it has now finished. The club hopes to continue to capture the spirit in which the club had with Tony Martindale.

-2007 The season was the best season in the clubs short history with the first team winning Division 2, winning Finlays first every throphy in the Cheltenham League and also getting to the Semi-Final off both the County Cup and League Cup. The Reserves also had a great season by finishing 3rd in Division 5 gaining promotion. They also got to the final of the League Cup narrowly losing 1-0.

-2008 The season was a good season on the whole with the first team finishing 3rd in there first season in Division 1 and the Reserves finishing 10th in there first season in Division 4. Both teams where knocked out early on in the League and County Cup.
