Today's scoreline highlights what a proper cup tie is all about as Town never looked in any real danger of not winning this game but at the same time came very close to doing so.
Town started very well. They were keeping the ball well and testing the Warton backline from all angles. The new central defence pairing of Smith and Bamber was looking solid and the full backs were supporting the attacking football.
The goals came from Buschini and Wilson. The former grabbed his second of the season with another header from a well taken corner. Rising highest at the near post he guided the ball down to head firmly though the keepers legs. Wilson's came from some good play down the left hand side. Two passes later and Wilson found himself receiving the ball on the right hand side of the box with one man to beat. His first touch took him round the defender and his second smashed the ball past the keeper.
Half time came and Town were encouraged to keep going.
Warton came out firing and Town weathered the storm well. Changes didn't help Town's momentum but once the subs got settled, the game continued on a similar pattern to how the first half had unfolded. Greenhalgh, Shaw and Cartmell were linking well with Lane and chance after chance was craeted.
In all seriousness, the game should have been over with twenty minutes to go but as each chance went begging, Warton's confidence grew. A break down the left saw their forward jink past three of Town's players only for Bamber to take one for the team by bringing him down on the edge of the box.
The weak free-kick looped over the wall. Dollin probably couldn't believe his luck but in doing so, fumbled and the ball went through him and crept over the line.
2-1 and game on.
Town continued to dominate and after having a clear penalty denied and Greenhalgh, Lane and Cartmell all missing chances they managed to hold firm for victory. A trip to Cadley in two weeks the reward!
MoM: Elliot Kerr. Looked solid at right back and did his job with no fuss.
Overall a much improved display. Obviously Warton are not the strongest team we will play this year but attitude and committment was MUCH improved. Well done!
